When you finish, your Ledger or Trezor address will sit under External Wallets in Immutable Passport as a read-only linked wallet. Passport and the games built on it can see what that wallet holds, and nothing on it can be moved. The whole job is one signed message, not a transaction, so no gas is spent. Know this before you start: there is no Ledger button. Hardware wallets go in through MetaMask, according to Immutable's help article on connecting an external wallet.
Immutable's blog describes the feature as delegating "read-only access, keeping your assets in cold storage while conveniently leveraging them in-game." The Passport FAQ is more direct: "Currently, you cannot sign transactions in these other wallets via Passport." A game can see and display a linked item. If you want to list, spend or craft with it, you have to transfer it into the Passport wallet first, and at that point it is no longer in cold storage. The other route Immutable offers is importing the items into Passport outright. Linking is the option that leaves them where they are.
What you need
-
A Ledger or Trezor bought from the manufacturer
Around October 9, 2026, [Help Net Security reported](https://www.helpnetsecurity.com/2026/10/12/ledger-wallets-compromised-via-hardware-implant/) that Ledgers sold through the Southeast Asia reseller CryptoBilis had a hidden implant that read the screen and sent out recovery phrases. Losses are estimated above $93 million. Ledger's own sales channels were not affected. If your device came from CryptoBilis in the past 90 days, Ledger says not to initialize it.
-
MetaMask with the hardware account already added
Immutable's consumer flow is labeled "Link a MetaMask Wallet" and covers hardware wallets connected through MetaMask. The [developer docs](https://docs.immutable.com/docs/products/passport/wallet) list hardware wallets only as a category and do not name Ledger or Trezor.
-
A Passport account you can log into
Your Passport account email will appear in the message you sign.
-
A free link slot
Each Passport account has a maximum number of linked external wallets. The docs do not publish the number.

Linking it, one signature at a time
-
Plug in and unlock the hardware wallet.
You should see MetaMask list the hardware account as available.
-
Switch MetaMask to the hardware account.
You should see the device's address shown as the active account.
-
Type passport.immutable.com into the address bar yourself.
Do not search for it. Phishing ads have been reported in Google results for IMX queries. You should land on the Passport login page.
-
Log in to Passport.
You should see your Passport dashboard.
-
Open External Wallets.
You should see any wallets already linked, or an empty list.
-
Click Link a MetaMask Wallet.
You should see a signature request pop up.
-
Check that the pop-up is genuinely from MetaMask.
Phishing sites copy the Passport linking screen in order to collect a valid ownership signature.
-
Check that the requesting site reads passport.immutable.com.
Any other origin means you should close the window without signing.
-
Check the wallet address and Passport email in the message.
Both should match what you expect. The message should not ask to approve or transfer any token.
-
Approve the signature on the hardware wallet.
You should see the address appear under External Wallets as linked.

Your cold-storage holdings now show up in Passport-powered games, and the keys never left the device. The cost is that anything you want to actually use has to come out of cold storage first. If you play on Ronin too, the device you chose matters more than the link itself.
