The best NFT wallet for a gamer is two wallets. The first is the hot wallet your game's chain is built around: Ronin Wallet for Axie Infinity and Pixels, Phantom for Solana games, MetaMask or Rabby for Ethereum and its layer-2s, and Immutable Passport for Immutable games. That one connects to games and marketplaces and holds little. The second is a hardware wallet (a cold wallet) that never connects to a game and holds the NFTs and tokens you would mind losing. All four hot wallets below can sign through a Ledger or a Trezor, so you do not have to give up the game's own wallet to get the device's protection.
The split matters because NFT gamers are not robbed of seed phrases so much as talked into signatures: a fake mint, an airdropped NFT with a link in its artwork, a "migration" page. A wallet that holds only a session's worth of assets limits what one bad signature costs.
| Your games run on | Hot wallet to play with | Shows NFTs | Pairs with a hardware wallet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ronin (Axie Infinity, Pixels) | Ronin Wallet | Yes | Ledger and Trezor, in a Chromium browser |
| Solana | Phantom | Yes, Collectibles tab | Ledger |
| Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon | MetaMask or Rabby | Yes | Ledger and Trezor |
| Immutable zkEVM | Immutable Passport | Yes | Through a linked MetaMask |
Ronin Wallet: Axie Infinity and Pixels
Ronin is Sky Mavis's own chain, and Ronin Wallet is its wallet, as a browser extension and a phone app. Axie Infinity, Pixels and most Ronin games expect it, and it shows your Axies, land and other Ronin NFTs without anything else installed.
For cold storage, Ronin Wallet's Connect Hardware Wallet offers Ledger and Trezor side by side. Ledger's support pages add that the option only appears in Chromium browsers such as Chrome, Brave and Edge, not Firefox. Step by step: connecting a Ledger to Ronin Wallet. Trezor lists the Safe 3, Safe 5 and Safe 7 on its Ronin page.
If you are deciding between the two gaming chains rather than between wallets, Immutable vs Ronin covers that.
Phantom: Solana games
Phantom is the default wallet of Solana games and marketplaces. NFTs sit in its Collectibles tab, and it also holds Ethereum, Base and Polygon assets, so a player on two chains can keep one app. It connects to a Ledger for signing.
Solana moves fast and cheaply, which is good for games and good for drainers: a malicious transaction costs the attacker almost nothing to send you. Phantom shows a preview of what a transaction will change before you approve it. Read it, and treat any request you did not start as hostile. For a Solana player who signs from a phone, the Ledger Nano X's Bluetooth is the reason to pick it over the cheaper Ledgers.
MetaMask or Rabby: Ethereum and the layer-2s
MetaMask is the wallet every EVM game and marketplace supports; its NFTs tab shows your collection. Rabby does the same job with one feature worth having for gamers: before you sign, it simulates the transaction and shows what will leave and enter your wallet. That is the check that catches a "free mint" which is really an approval for your whole collection.
Both sign through a Ledger or a Trezor. Trezor itself shows no NFTs in its own app, so on a Trezor you view and manage them here; Ledger Live shows Ethereum and Polygon NFTs natively. Setting one up so a game cannot empty it is covered in setting up a wallet for play-to-earn games without getting drained.
Immutable Passport: Immutable games
Immutable games create an Immutable Passport for you the first time you log in, with an email or a social account, so there is no seed phrase to write down. That makes it the easiest wallet here and the one you control least directly.
Passport can link an external wallet, and that is the route to cold storage: link a MetaMask that is itself paired with a Ledger or Trezor, with one signed message. The steps are in linking a hardware wallet to Immutable Passport.
The cold half: which hardware wallet
A hardware wallet keeps the private key on a device and asks for a button press before anything is signed. It does not read the transaction for you, so a bigger screen is worth paying for if you sign NFT approvals often. The full ranking, with each device's chain support and its drawbacks, is in the best hardware wallet for NFT games; under $100, see the cheapest ones that reach game chains. The short version:
Cold wallets
Buy from the maker or its official store, never second-hand and never a device that arrives with a recovery phrase already printed on a card. Not sure you need one yet? Do you need a hardware wallet for crypto games puts the line at the device's own price.
What no NFT wallet protects you from
- An NFT you did not expect. Airdropped NFTs with a link in the artwork are a standard lure. MetaMask's own advice is a single question: did you expect this NFT? If not, leave it alone.
- Approvals you forgot. A marketplace or game approval stays live until you revoke it. Check them periodically with a revoke tool and remove the ones you do not recognise.
- A website asking for your recovery phrase. No game, wallet or support agent needs it. Anyone who asks is the attack.
- A game that shuts down. Seven play-to-earn games and studios went dark in 2026; a wallet keeps the NFT but not the game it worked in.
